Unit description

This unit provides students with the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills in veterinary practice. They will be competent in their animal handling, cultural competency, communication and clinical skills in the workplace.

Unit content

This placement unit consists of six weeks of clinical placement in a veterinary clinical practice setting including:

Recording experiences

Placement

Application of clinical skills to deliver optimal care for animals

Formulation and application of diagnostic plans and tests

Performing clinical procedures and implementing treatment plans

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

competently apply advanced critical thinking and clinical skills in veterinary clinical practice setting, integrating knowledge, experience, and ethical considerations to deliver optimal care for animals demonstrating initiative and judgement in professional practice

competently formulate diagnostic plans based on clinical presentations, perform a range of common diagnostic tests, and interpret the results in diverse veterinary clinical practice settings.

competently perform common clinical procedures, implement appropriate treatment plans, and manage patients with supervision in a veterinary clinical practice setting

demonstrate competency in communication, cultural competency, teamwork and professional skills by effectively interacting with clients, colleagues, and team members in a veterinary clinical practice setting while engaging in reflective practice to identify areas for improvement.
