Unit description

This unit aim to develop core competency in diagnostic imaging in veterinary practice. Students will apply their previous knowledge of the animal body, clinical medicine and technical skills to perform the routine diagnostic tests/procedures in veterinary practice and interpret the results.

Unit content

This placement unit consists of three weeks of clinical placement in diagnostic imaging for veterinary practice including:

Identification and selection of appropriate diagnostic imaging modalities

Assisting with and performing diagnostic imaging

Assisting with and performing pathology procedures

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

demonstrate proficiency in selecting appropriate diagnostic imaging modalities and interpreting results for patients through practical experiences and case studies

demonstrate proficiency in assisting clinicians and independently performing radiographic imaging on animal patients through practical experiences and supervised practice

demonstrate proficiency in assisting clinicians and independently performing ultrasonographic imaging on animal patients through practical experiences and supervised practice

demonstrate proficiency in communication, teamwork and professional skills by effectively interacting with clients, colleagues, and team members in the diagnostic imaging practice setting.
