VETS3017 - Clinical Rotation: Equine Practice

Unit description

This unit aims to develop the core competencies in production animal and mixed rural practice. Students will assist clinicians in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of the common medical and surgical conditions in individual animals and diseases of the herd/flock in veterinary practice. This will include assisting with and performing basic diagnostic and clinical procedures on patients under supervision.

This placement unit consists of three weeks of clinical placement in production animal and mixed rural veterinary practice including:

Learning outcomes

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

proficiently and confidently apply advanced critical thinking and clinical skills in production & mixed animal practice, integrating knowledge, experience, and ethical considerations to deliver optimal care for animals while engaging in reflective practice

independently and skilfully formulate diagnostic plans based on clinical presentations, perform a range of common diagnostic tests, and interpret the results in production & mixed animal practice patients

demonstrate proficiency in performing common clinical procedures, implementing appropriate treatment plans, and managing groups of production & mixed animal practice patients through practical hands-on experiences and case studies

demonstrate proficiency in communication, teamwork and professional skills by effectively interacting with clients, colleagues, and team members in the production & mixed animal practice setting.
