Unit description

This unit provides the essential foundational knowledge of the normal structure and function of the digestive and endocrine systems and nutrition and metabolism. Students will study microscopic and gross anatomy and will learn about the normal physiological processes across a range of species. This will provide them with the ability to recognise the normal animal body.

Module 1. General principles, structure and function of the digestive and endocrine systems and nutrition and metabolism

Module 2. Diagnostic evaluation of the digestive and endocrine systems

Module 3. Companion animals and Exotic/Native/Zoo/Wildlife

Learning outcomes

apply knowledge of the digestive system to describe in detail its structure across animal species while actively engaging in reflective practice

apply knowledge of metabolism to describe in detail its variations across different animal species

apply knowledge of the endocrine system to describe in detail its structure and function across animal species.
