Unit description

This unit introduces the psychological and psychosocial concepts and theories of human development and human behaviour as relevant to social work practice. The unit overviews key theories and uses case studies to apply theories in social work contexts.

Developmental psychology and lifespan theories
Cultural contexts: social and emotional wellbeing
Gender and sexuality across the lifespan
Applying developmental theories to social work with children and young people
Applying developmental theories to social work with older people
Wellbeing, resilience and social work practice

Learning outcomes

evaluate and articulate the application of psychological concepts to social work in Australia

apply written academic material appropriately to develop, structure, and justify arguments
