Please note this unit has assessments scheduled in Week 7 which will require attendance on-campus. Details will be provided closer to the time. Students will be required to attend on-campus practical classes, and complete 80 hours of supervised massage therapy practice. This unit contains Work Integrated Learning (WIL) activities that require students to meet mandatory fit to practice obligations prior to attending. Failure to comply by the fit to practice deadline will result in the cancellation of your WIL activity. Full details are available at www.scu.edu.au/healthplacements.
Learning outcomes
Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.
On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
discuss professional conduct and safety within the context of therapeutic massage
apply therapeutic massage techniques to torso, head, neck and limbs
apply therapeutic massage techniques to full body
recommend appropriate mind-body techniques for healthy populations using the best available evidence

Students are required to bring to each practical class: non-restrictive clothing, fully enclosed sturdy flat shoes (shoes must fully cover toes), a hair-tie (if applicable), and 2 large towels.
