Unit description

This unit explores the role of a clinical exercise physiologist in cancer and special populations, focusing on how exercise can aid in managing these conditions. It also develops skills in clinical assessment, teamwork, communication (both written and verbal), and critical clinical reasoning for designing and delivering safe, evidence-based exercise interventions.

Unit content

Role of exercise for cancer management
Applied exercise assessment and programming for cancer clients (pre, during and after treatment)
Exercise in supportive cancer care
Special populations 1: Pain and chronic pain
Special populations 2: Men's health, women's health, Indigenous Australian's health and healthy aging
Special populations 3: Respiratory health

Learning outcomes

develop assessment and exercise programming skills, and clinical reasoning for special populations including those diagnosed with cancer
