Learning outcomes
Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.
On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
identify and locate research literature related to a chosen research area and to critically review and evaluate relevant research literature using a thematic approach to identify knowledge gaps that could be addressed through a research project
demonstrate the ability to identify and apply the appropriate research approach and methodology for engineering research projects
define the scope of a research project to address one or more identified gaps in existing knowledge in terms of achievable aims and an appropriate methodology
present a coherent written proposal for a research study that describes the background, aims, rationale, methodology, and anticipated outcomes for the proposed study.
demonstrate an ability to initiate a research project by sourcing necessary resources, obtaining necessary approvals, and commencing preliminary data collection.
