Enrolment information

All students are required to meet compulsory participation requirements to pass the unit. Online students must attend a 3 day on-campus residential.

Unit description

This unit introduces students to a specific contemporary counselling modality. Students will be expected to demonstrate an understanding of key modality-specific principles and processes and to develop a capacity to apply a range of counselling skills related to the modality being taught, with knowledge and skills demonstrated within the classroom setting and through a range of assessment tasks.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

demonstrate a sound theoretical and clinical understanding of a specific counselling modality

apply a range of introductory, modality-specific counselling skills, according to professional codes of conduct and ethical principles

demonstrate and appropriately apply a range of foundational counselling skills within counselling sessions

evaluate and constructively critique and reflect on the process of counselling, including their own professional practice
