Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

explain the basic principles of natural and human-modified water cycle systems

apply practical engineering methods, such as through the application of the rainfall and runoff processes to design solutions to water flows in a human-modified environment

formulate and communicate an innovative approach to solve a water cycle challenge

self-assess use of management skills, social skills and professional judgement in contributing to the successful completion of a project related to the human-modified water cycle

apply hydraulic principles and calculations to real world engineering solutions, including open channel and pipe flow, in order to design and implement flow and pumping systems used in engineering works

define and explain the different properties of fluids under different water engineering conditions.
