Frederika Yee

Participated in the New Colombo Plan two- week program, focusing on Waste Management in February 2024 as part of the Global Experience with Southern Cross University.

"I cannot recommend this program enough! I was very nervous at first and didn’t know what to expect. It’s an eye opener. Getting to see brand new sights and experience the language, culture, amazing people and studies. This was an awesome experience." Frederika said

The program really opened my eyes to how different countries have different ways to tackle arising waste issues in our world. It makes me want to communicate and work more with other students and academics from overseas so we can come up with diverse ways to tackle the current environmental problems and even problems that could arise later in the future.

Dean Power

Studying Bachelor of Education

Dean had an incredible experience during the NCP two-week program in Hanoi in 2023. Enthusiastic about his time there, he  applied again to join the 2024 NCP program in Ho Chi Minh City. " It was and exhilarating and memorable two weeks! Everybody I met was passionate and welcoming. It was great to see all levels and systems of education in Vietnam." Dean said

This program has significantly strengthened my connection with the faculty and lecturers. It has enabled me to bridge the gap between theory and practice in supporting diverse students and EALID learners. I also had the opportunity to participate in professional discussions about international pedagogy during the program.

Through this experience, I have improved my ability to work in groups and adapt to new, ever-changing situations. It has enhanced my cultural awareness, travel and time management skills, and my ability to work in foreign environments.

Students in Singapore

Amelia Norris

Participated in a two-week NCP program in Singapore in October 2023

I was one of the students fortunate enough to be a part of the NCP trip Singapore in October of this year. To say it was an eye opening and exceptional experience is an understatement, two weeks of cultural shock, educational workshops, hotel tours, relationship building and indulging in new foods. It was everything I expected and more.

This trip was a once in a lifetime opportunity that I got to be apart of and I am so thankful and appreciative for having such an amazing two weeks in another country. I would not have wished for it to go any other way.  It is important for this generation to experience different cultures, explore different parts of the world and come together forming new connections. This trip was the perfect way to do this at an inexpensive cost and pre planned activities to create ease and convenience.

Laura Cantwell

Studying a Bachelor of Business and Enterprise degree at the University of Hertfordshire in England on exchange.

Laura described herself as a “globally minded citizen.” She has spent the past 16 months working, volunteering, and travelling across five continents while maintaining a near-perfect GPA with her academic result at SCU. Laura has spent months volunteering as an English teacher in a remote village in Tanzania, as a beach lifeguard in Costa Rica, and on a sailing boat in Norway with an ocean clean-up NGO.

Experience Abroad

Laura is currently participating in a semester exchange at the University of Hertfordshire (UH). During her first week at UH, she contacted our exchange team to express her desire for yet another semester exchange at a different European institution. Below are Laura’s photos during her orientation week at UH, showcasing her engagement in a sports club for International students. Laura has already established her international friendships and connections and is building on her study abroad adventure.

Future plans

Our team encouraged Laura to explore the possibilities offered by the Erasmus+ scholarship to study at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, Italy.  Laura’s application was successful, and she has received a generous scholarship of 850 Euros per month for the duration of the exchange period. Laura is looking forward to her second exchange program in September 2024.
