Applying for HEA Fellowship

Here you will find all the information you need to get started.

SCU will support eligible staff throughout the application process via the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) and your appointed mentor. During the process, you will develop a written application in which you articulate and reflect on how you have met the relevant standards from the PSF 2023. You will need to provide evidence, as well as a professional reference.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

All SCU staff who support student learning either directly or indirectly are eligible to apply for HEA Fellowship. Payment of the application fee upon submission is at the discretion of your faculty or work unit.

Use the Fellowship Decision Tool to determine which category of fellowship you should apply for.

The length of your submission and the descriptor you need to align to will depend on the type of Fellowship you are applying for. The table below summarises the main requirements. More information is available in the application packs available in the staff resources area.

Your written account is a reflective narrative. You will use authentic, specific examples from your current and recent (last 3 years) work. You don’t need to supply any evidence apart from what is contained within your reflective narrative.

When you submit your ‘Application expression of interest form’ (see the resources in the staff-only area), you will be allocated a mentor. This will be an existing SCU staff member who holds HEA Fellowship. They will be your first port of call when you have questions throughout the process. You can also talk to the HEA team within CTL as needed if there are questions your mentor cannot answer.

Yes. A fee is payable upon submission of your application. Below is the cost per application. The Australian dollar amounts are approximate as at 02/08/2024. Note that these are the discounted fees (50% off) that we get due to SCU’s membership with Advance HE.

That’s up to you but, once you have committed to applying for Fellowship, you should aim to get it done within 6 months. Even better if you take less time than this! CTL will invite expressions of interest twice per year for the purposes of allocating mentors and funding. If you would like to start the process at other points in the year, you will need to find your own mentor.

Steps

These are the steps you will go through to complete your application. While you will have University support in developing your application, the final submission to Advance HE must be done directly by you.

The process of obtaining an HEA Fellowship through SCU involves:

Step 1 – Talk to colleagues who already have HEA Fellowship, especially those within your own discipline.

Step 2 – Choose the appropriate category of Fellowship based on your experience.

Step 3 – Submit an expression of interest form when CTL advertises an 'open for submission' period.

Step 4 – Connect with your mentor.

Step 5 Prepare an application that demonstrates how you have met the relevant PSF 2023 standards.

Step 6 Submit your application to your mentor for peer review.

Step 7 Submit your application to Advance HE.
