SCU Equity Scholarships

Equity Scholarships are awarded to help future and current undergraduate students who are disadvantaged.

The scholarship is designed to assist with costs associated with higher education. Scholarships are generally awarded to students impacted with multiple disadvantages.

Equity scholarship applications for Term 1, 2025 are now open. If you are already in receipt of, or likely to receive a Centrelink Income Support Payment and are planning to study in Term 1, 2025 – Apply Now.

Term 3, 2024 offers will be issued on or after 21 June 2024.
Term 4, 2024 offers will be issued on or after 20 August 2024.
Term 1, 2025 offers will be issued on or after 13 February 2025.

Value

The scholarship offer will be a pro-rata rate of $600 per unit up to a maximum value of $3600.

Number available

Number varies for each teaching period. The majority of offers will be made in Term 1 (March 2025).

Course of study

Any Commonwealth-supported Bachelor degree on any campus.

Term 3, 2024 applications close 8 June 2024.
Term 4, 2024 applications close 10 August 2024.
Term 1, 2025 applications close on 7 February 2025.

Citizenship/residency

Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens, permanent residents (other than humanitarian), permanent residents (humanitarian).

Low socio-economic status

Applicants must meet the criteria for low socio-economic status by demonstrating one of the following:

  • Receiving or expecting to receive a Centrelink means-tested income support payment (such as Disability Support Pension, Parenting Payment Single, Carer Payment etc.).
  • Dependent commencing students aged between 16–20 years whose parent/guardian is in receipt of Family Tax Benefit (FTB) Part A for this student at the time of application.

Other disadvantages

SCU will generally award scholarships to applicants who demonstrate multiple disadvantages under the following:

  • Carer responsibilities
  • English language difficulties
  • Financial hardship
  • Indigenous Australian
  • Long-term medical condition/disability or ongoing effects of abuse
  • Sole-parent responsibilities
  • Special note: Geographic disadvantage will not be considered for current (i.e. continuing) students. For Future commencing on-campus students it will be automatically calculated by Southern Cross University based on your permanent home address/recently completed secondary schooling.

Non-eligibility

You are not eligible for consideration if you:

  • Already hold a bachelor’s degree or higher-level award, unless the award you hold is a prerequisite to the bachelor course you are enrolled in (or will be enrolled in).
  • Already receive or will be receiving another type of Commonwealth/government funded Scholarship; for example, Indigenous Commonwealth Education Costs Scholarship.
  • Already receive or will be receiving another non-government funded scholarship valued at more than $6000 per year.
