Recipient of the Eve Investments Regenerative Agriculture Scholarship Emma-jeay Pickett wasn’t planning on university until she heard about the world-first degree in Regenerative Agriculture offered at Southern Cross.
The 25-year-old from the Mid North Coast is the first in her family to attend university thanks to a $5000 scholarship from Eve Investments. The company, which has tea tree operations in the Northern Rivers, is committed to producing health and wellness products using regenerative farming practices and nurturing the next generation of land stewards.
Ms Pickett said, “I wanted to do something that helps society’s struggle with climate change. My interest in regenerative agriculture started through Permaculture a few years ago, and I haven’t looked back since.
The Eve Investments Regenerative Agriculture Scholarship is awarded to students with a passion for regenerative agriculture who are studying full time in the Bachelor of Science, majoring in Regenerative Agriculture at Southern Cross University.
Eve Investments Managing Director and CEO, Bill Fry, said, “At Eve Investments, we are passionate about providing meaningful and positive benefits to the community in which we operate. Southern Cross is part of this community and is recognised as a leading educational institution in the field of regenerative agriculture. Its students are the next generation to drive change in this field. So it’s important that we provide support to students in their education journey as we strongly believe in the benefits of regenerative practices for the long term sustainability of our planet.”
Eve Investments produce tea tree and honey derived health and wellness products. Its 2,000 acres of tea tree farmland operations in Bungawalbin, near Lismore, are centred around upholding certified organic practices and adopting regenerative farming techniques to increase soil diversity.
Ms Pickett said, “I am particularly interested in soil biology, especially fungi of all kinds and how they can be used in the agricultural Industry. I plan to complete my PhD within this field and begin a career as a research scientist.”
Eve Investments offer a Regenerative Agriculture Scholarship each financial year worth $5,000.
