A surge in applications for mid-year study shows a marked increase in the number of students interested in pursuing healthcare careers through Southern Cross University.

Not only does the University offer Australia’s top ranked psychology degree – according to both the latest federal government QILT data and 2020 Good Universities Guide – but now prospective psychology students can receive personalised mentoring from one of Australia’s leading experts.

Dr Desiree Kozlowski, course coordinator for psychological science at Southern Cross University, specialises in research focusing on emotional intelligence, pleasure and gender roles. With more than 10 years of online teaching expertise, a prestigious University Impact Teaching award, and a supervisor to scores of Honours psychology students, Dr Kozlowski is keen to mentor new applicants embarking on a degree in the field.

“Some people who’ve been considering or planning to start a degree in psychology may be feeling nervous due to the current circumstances, given how tough the past few months have been with the COVID-19 crisis impacts, but I want to reassure new psychology students and provide a really solid introduction to study,” said Dr Kozlowski.

“I am offering to mentor new students personally, so anyone serious about studying psychology – including double-degree options with sport and exercise science or law – can contact me for an introductory session on studying psychology, and a follow-up session during Week 1 of study in July to ensure they’re settling in well.”

This unique personalised support offer is in addition to the University’s wide range of resources and assistance for students, which has seen Southern Cross consistently receive a five-star ranking for support in the Good Universities Guide over many years.

Dr Kozlowski said the psychology degree at Southern Cross University attracts students from across the country and the globe. In fact, many Australian students living overseas choose to study the Bachelor of Psychological Science online with Southern Cross.

“We’ve had students join classes and sit their scheduled exams online with us alongside their work commitments in Asia, London, Paris, and even on board a ship off the coast of Alaska. These students who are living abroad have been able to continue their studies amidst the current crisis with ongoing support.

“Whether students live near one of our campuses in Coffs Harbour, Lismore and Gold Coast, or live anywhere from a remote town to a major metropolitan city, we want them to know that Southern Cross will support them at an exemplary level.

“Every day that someone studies psychology, they know more about themselves, other people and the world than they did the day before. Our students are given the tools and skillset to excel in numerous professional settings.”
