If you are ready to dive into your dream career, Southern Cross University Open Day will help get you there.

Southern Cross Vice Chancellor Professor Adam Shoemaker says he is thrilled to welcome the community and prospective students to Open Day at the Gold Coast on July 29, to discover the amazing courses, facilities and services offered on campus and online.

“The best way to make a decision about future study and career options is to speak with Southern Cross University lecturers, current students and course advisors face-to-face. Open Day gives people the chance to ask all their study questions, hear inspiring and informative presentations, and experience the amazing facilities and campus layout,” Professor Shoemaker said.

“We have a suite of new and exciting courses on offer at Southern Cross University, and at Open Day we can help you decide which course is right for you.”

There will be information stalls and presentations about degrees in arts, business, tourism, IT, education, science, engineering, marine and environment science, nursing, midwifery, allied health, social science, law, SCU College pathways, academic skills and international offerings. Visit the Open Day website to plan your schedule for Coffs Harbour (July 27), Lismore (July 28) or Gold Coast (July 29) and tailor sessions and activities to match your interests at openday.scu.edu.au

From 2019 Southern Cross University Gold Coast will launch the Bachelor of Psychological Science alongside a double-degree offering of Psychological Science and Laws. The campus will also launch the double Bachelor of Podiatry, Bachelor of Pedorthics degree, and a Graduate Diploma in Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities online which responds to an increasing demand for skilled professionals in this area following the NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) rollout.

Southern Cross University recently launched online Master and Graduate Diploma courses in both Mental Health and Mental Health Nursing, with shorter ‘Study Period’ intakes in August and October. From August, Registered Nurses can study the Graduate Certificate in Primary Healthcare Nursing online, with application in healthcare leadership.

Campus and health facility tours will run throughout Open Day, including the state-of-the-art pedorthics lab, the Occupational Therapy Daily Living Lab, and a free five-minute health check in the Health Truck parked by The Green.

In October, the Master of Information Technology will also be launched at the Gold Coast campus for Session 3 intake, following the mid-year launch of new double degree combining the Master of International Tourism and Hotel Management (MITHM) with a Master of Business Administration (MBA), with graduates receiving two internationally recognised management qualifications.

At Open Day, the School of Business and Tourism will host hands-on finance simulations, interactive robotics workshops and Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality activities where guests can experience the future through VR goggles and video analysis, while IT students will present their work at the ‘My Brilliant Idea’ showcase.

Aspiring writers can study the Graduate Diploma of Creative Writing online part-time over two years, with the new postgraduate course now available online.

Be transported into a fairy tale world with exciting legal matters at Open Day, when the head of the School of Law and Justice Professor Bill MacNeil will judge mock trials of students and staff in character, including Pinocchio vs Mister Geppetto. Learn the Art of Chinese Negotiation from Law Professor Bee Chen Goh over a delicious session of ‘Yum Cha(t)’ and enjoy entertainment from contemporary music students and an Indigenous Welcome to Country and dance performances. Guests can also check out Southern Cross University’s Research Boat, and discover what a scientific life on the high seas would be like.

The University proudly boasts the Gold Coast’s only beachside campus located at Bilinga, just 400m from the beautiful North Kirra Beach and right next to Gold Coast Airport. Open Day guests will be able to experience the 10-storey world-class mural of two figures in person, recently painted on the side of Building B by alumnus and internationally-renowned artist Guido van Helten.
