Experience UNIty in diVERSITY at Fusion

The best way to experience the amazing cultural diversity of the North Coast region is to come along to Southern Cross University’s upcoming Fusion Festival.

The festival is free and open to the general public and celebrates the University’s diverse and multicultural community and the contribution it makes to intercultural understanding both on campus and in the local area.

This year’s festival theme is ‘UNIty in diVERSITY: the coming together of cultures and communities’.

On the Lismore campus Fusion will run from Monday, September 8 to Friday, September 12. On the Tweed Gold Coast campus, festivities will take place on Tuesday, September 9.

Rachel Callahan, a member of the Fusion committee, which is organising the festival, said the event will “further intercultural understanding and communal harmony through interaction in various forms – from cultural to social, intellectual and sporting events.”

The Lismore campus program includes a photographic competition and exhibition in the SCU library, theology discussions over coffee and cake, music, song and dance from around the world, forums, discussions, an international film night and an international cook-off competition.


On the Tweed Gold Coast campus, activities will include hip hop, Latin, Japanese and Aboriginal dancing performances, a mini Olympics, Indian music and sari-wrapping, an Asian food smorgasbord and a martial arts demonstration.
