Southern Cross University will allow Port Macquarie students to continue using the students’ hall in Horton Street during the relocation of teaching to the North Coast Institute of TAFE campus.

In a joint statement today, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Enterprise and International), Professor Angela Delves, and the President of the Port Macquarie Students’ Association, Mr Umut Tasdemir, announced that they had agreed that as a transitional arrangement, students could use the hall where the students’ association would operate a study centre.

“We all want to make this change as easy as possible for our students,” Professor Delves said.

Mr Tasdemir said that the Students’ Association welcomed the decision and looked forward to working constructively with Professor Delves in the future.

“There are a number of issues arising from the changes that we need to work through with the University, and this is a good start,” he said.

SCU announced earlier this year that from 2003, the University’s teaching operations would move to facilities at the TAFE as part of a “Distributed Network Campus” that includes Grafton and Murwillumbah.
