DISTINGUISHED SCHOLAR TO JOIN SCU COUNCIL

Professor Sandra Harding, the Dean of the Faculty of Business at Queensland University of Technology, has accepted an invitation to join the governing Council of Southern Cross University as an appointment by the NSW Minister for Education.

In welcoming Professor Harding's appointment, which will bring the Council to the maximum number of eighteen members, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor John Rickard, noted that she was a past winner of the Queensland Prize in Public Administration. In addition she is currently a member of the Brisbane Transport Board, the Archdiocese of Brisbane's Finance Board and the Queensland Small Business Advisory Council.

"Sandra Harding's involvement with our dedicated and broadly skilled Council will contribute a further level of valuable experience at a challenging time for higher education in Australia," Professor Rickard added.

Professor Harding, whose initial appointment to SCU's Council runs until September 2002, completed a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree at ANU in 1978 before undertaking further studies in medieval history. She undertook a Master of Public Administration degree at the University of Queensland and a PhD in Sociology at North Carolina State University, USA focusing on work and organisation and inequality issues. She is published widely and is a member of numerous professional organisations.
