Overview

The COVID pandemic has thrown the work of our healthcare practitioners into the spotlight. Now more than ever we need a health workforce that is keenly attuned to the needs of local communities, with a global focus on practice and learning.

At the Faculty of Health at Southern Cross University, we are deeply committed to tackling the issues that are closest to home and to training of the highest standard for the professionals our communities need. At the same time, we realise our potential to contribute on the world stage.

Our research aspires to influence global healthcare, building on our strengths to generate new knowledge and to drive practice forward into the future.

Facilities

Students learn and practise their skills in state-of-the-art simulation laboratories and specialist facilities, located at Southern Cross University's campuses in Lismore, Gold Coast and Coffs Harbour. Two on-campus Health Clinics provide safe environments for supervised placements, where students provide integrated healthcare services to the community.

Our people

Our lecturers and researchers have strengths in disciplines across the healthcare spectrum, spanning nursing and midwifery, occupational therapy and speech pathology to podiatry, pedorthics, osteopathy and biomedical sciences.

Drawing on the advice and insights of health departments and professional associations, we design and deliver accredited courses that are relevant and responsive to the needs of our communities. Our research responds to community issues, with a focus on our capacity to influence best practice standards for global healthcare.

Ashleigh Woods graduated with the Bachelor of Nursing in 2015 and the completed postgraduate studies in midwifery at another university. She works as a nurse at The Tweed Hospital’s emergency department and Women’s Care Unit, helping to deliver babies.

Student-led clinics

Engage in clinical activities like assessment and diagnosis, and patient treatment planning and intervention – all under full supervision – without leaving the campus at the University’s Health Clinics located at the Gold Coast and Lismore.

Honours research

An Honours year extends your knowledge and develops advanced research skills. It’s the preferred pathway to PhD studies, too. And if you’re considering a career in psychology Honours is the necessary preparation.

Scholarships

A scholarship can help ease the financial burden of getting an education. Southern Cross University’s scholarships range in value from $150 to $60,000.
