Southern Cross University has today announced a suite of short courses for Australians looking to upskill and retrain from mid-2020.
The new online courses are backed by Federal Government’s COVID-19 relief package and are designed to enable people to build skills in areas such as health, IT, engineering, science, education and agriculture for a fraction of the usual cost of study – with HECS-HELP available to all Australian citizens.
Southern Cross University Vice Chancellor Professor Adam Shoemaker said now was the perfect time for people to ‘reset their future’ by studying a short course through Southern Cross, with the option for students to transition into studying a full diploma or degree.
“These short courses give Australians the opportunity to upskill and reassess what career path they want to pursue. This is especially important for those impacted by the current COVID-19 crisis,” Professor Shoemaker said.
“Southern Cross has long been a sector leader for our online education offering, with all degrees currently being offered online. We consistently see strong employment outcomes and high graduate salaries as reflected in federal government QILT data, and we are rated one of Australia’s best Universities for student support which is imperative for students at a time like this.”
The short course certificates are 12-weeks long, with four units of full-time online study beginning in July.

Southern Cross University has also modified its award-winning online pathway programs to enable current year 12 students (and previous year 12 graduates) to study a free six-week fulltime or 12-week part-time course. The Transition to Uni program develops the key academic literacies and the foundational scientific and quantitative concepts students will need to thrive at university, and successful completion of the program guarantees entry into all Southern Cross University undergraduate degrees in 2020 and 2021, except midwifery which involves an additional interview and selection process. Meanwhile, mature age students who didn’t complete high school can apply to study the University’s Preparing for Success Program (PSP) 12-week course for guaranteed undergraduate entry if successful.
Southern Cross is a regional university with campuses in Coffs Harbour and Lismore in NSW and the Gold Coast in QLD, and is ranked in the top 150 Young Universities in the World.
