Fail Grades

Failing a unit may have implications on your study plan and course progression. It is best to talk over your circumstances, unit selection and progression and discuss your options.

Students who receive a fail grade in one or more units in any study session will be contacted by the University with information about the support services available.

If you fail a unit you are also encouraged to contact the University about support services available.

Special Circumstances: If your grades have been affected by special circumstances, support is available. Students can apply for refund of tuition fees and/or ‘Withdrawn’ grade. You need to meet specific criteria which is detailed on the application form. Please note that rules and timelines apply.

Services and Support: Access Student Learning Zone resources to help improve your study skills. Access Support Services and connect with counsellors, the student advocacy service, health service, disability service, career development service and more.

Reassess your Study Load: Have you considered looking at your study plan to reduce your study load? This may help you focus on your studies and improve your pass rate.

Normally a Fail grade (F) means that you have attempted some or all of the assessment items, but not received a passing grade overall.

An Absent Fail (AF) is awarded when there have been no assessment items submitted and it is deemed you have abandoned your study.

Withdrawn with Fail (WF) is recorded when you withdraw after the Census Date.
