Welcome Week

Welcome Week is our brand-new initiative designed to give new students the best start to university life—and we need you to make it happen!
Volunteer opportunities are available at our three main campuses; Gold Coast, Lismore, and Coffs Harbour. 

As a Welcome Week Volunteer, you’ll:

•    Be the friendly face that greets new students

•    Help with fun giveaways and free food

•    Provide directions and advice to ease first-week nerves

•    Assist with set up, pack down, and everything in between

Shifts are short, flexible, and spread throughout the week, so you can easily fit them into your schedule. Shifts will be for 2-3 hours, with times yet to be advised.

The Term 2 Welcome Week is Monday 5th May - Friday 9th May 2025.

Campus Connection

Campus Connection is all about bringing students together and helping them discover the incredible support services our university offers. We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help create an engaging and welcoming environment!

As a Campus Connection Volunteer, you’ll:

•    Assist with event set up and pack down

•    Chat with students and make them feel at home

•    Help with fun giveaways and free food

•    Be part of building a positive and supportive campus vibe

It’s a great chance to meet new people, gain event experience, and play a key role in supporting your university community.

Campus Connection shifts are short to allow you greater flexibility and are generally from 11am-1pm (shift times may vary) at each of our campus locations; Gold Coast, Lismore, and Coffs Harbour. 

The Term 2 Campus Connection is Wednesday 14th May.

Student Safety Campaign: Consent comes with F.R.I.E.S

Student Safety campaign: ‘Consent comes with F.R.I.E.S’ (yes, actual fries!) is to promote safe, healthy relationships and affirmative consent to students across our 3 campuses.

We are looking for students who would like to be Safety Champions of this message - to join our task force and be involved in planning meetings, on the day volunteers and participate in post campaign feedback.

As a volunteer for Consent Comes with F.R.I.E.S you will be required to be involved with all of the below activities:

  • Task force meeting: Join online meetings to shape and contribute to ideas/activities/promotion and creation of the campaign. Volunteers must commit to at least 3 out of 6 meetings which are held weekly, for 30 minutes. The meetings will be held on April 15th, 22nd and 29th, and May 15th and 19th. 
  • On the day: Help with set up and pack down, run and/or assist in stalls and activities and engage students to participate in a quiz to get free fries and feedback survey. The on campus event will be held on Wednesday 21st May, from approx. 10:30am-1:30pm.
  • Post campaign focus group: Join an online meeting (15-30 minutes) to share feedback at the end of the campaign.

Consent Comes with F.R.I.E.S event will be held at Gold Coast, Lismore and Coffs Harbour campuses.

Sports Crew T1/T2

Join our sports crew to support the implementation of our campus-specific student social sports for up to 6 hours per week.

As a volunteer for UniLife you will assist with:

  • Assist with arrival administration, settling in students and supporting sporting requirements of related competitions.
  • Assist with the promotion of any activity, relating to the event/program, through unilife social media.
  • Support participants in a high-quality, inclusive, and fun experience.
  • Organise and attend all activities as planned on the event/program.
  • Document any injury or behavioural concerns.
  • Work cooperatively and communicate in a positive manner.
  • Other duties as assigned or as needed. 

This opportunity is for Lismore and Coffs Harbour students. Lismore social sports will be held on Thursday 6pm-9pm and Friday 4pm-8pm throughout the term (including term break). Day/time at Coffs Harbour is yet to be confirmed.

IDAHOBIT Day

IDAHOBIT Day is the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia.

As a volunteer at IDAHOBIT Day you will assist with:

  • Run activities
  • Assist with event set-up and pack down
  • Collecting feedback

 

IDAHOBIT Day will be held at Coffs Harbour, Lismore, and the Gold Coast on 14th May from 11am-1pm.

SCU Mates

SCU Mates is a peer mentoring volunteer role that helps connect new students to the university community to ensure they feel welcome and supported at Southern Cross Uni.

As an SCU Mate (Mentor) you will:

  • Connect with commencing first-year undergraduate students (Mentees)
  • Provide support (non-academic)
  • Meet with Mentees online or on campus - you can decide!
  • Share experiences and tips to help new students settle into their studies
  • Refer new students to support services - training is provide

Stress Less Week

Assist CoastRs (Gold Coast) and LEXSA (Lismore) Student Associations, in delivering a fun and engaging Stress Less day during Stress Less Week.

Your duties as a volunteer will include:

  • Assist with event set-up and pack-down
  • Helping with engagement/wellbeing activities

Stress Less Week is 2nd-6th June at Lismore and the Gold Coast.
