Term 1 Volunteer opportunities
Orientation
Orientation volunteers play a vital role in welcoming and guiding new students as they transition into university. Volunteer opportunities are available at our three main campuses; Gold Coast, Northern Rivers, and Coffs Harbour.
Orientation Vollies assist with:
- Orientation event prep and set-up
- Welcoming new students, creating a friendly and inclusive atmosphere
- Assisting with orientation activities, workshops, and social events to help new students connect with each other
- Chatting with new students
- Encouraging involvement in campus life, including clubs, organisations, and events
The Term 1 Orientation week is Monday 3rd March - Friday 7th March 2025.

Welcome Week is our brand-new initiative designed to give new students the best start to university life—and we need you to make it happen!
Volunteer opportunities are available at our three main campuses; Gold Coast, Lismore, and Coffs Harbour.
As a Welcome Week Volunteer, you’ll:
• Be the friendly face that greets new students
• Help with fun giveaways and free food
• Provide directions and advice to ease first-week nerves
• Assist with set up, pack down, and everything in between
Shifts are short, flexible, and spread throughout the week, so you can easily fit them into your schedule. Shifts will be for 2 hours, with times yet to be advised.
The Term 1 Welcome Week is Monday 10th March - Friday 14th March 2025.

SCU Mates is a peer mentoring volunteer role that helps connect new students to the university community to ensure they feel welcome and supported at Southern Cross Uni.
As an SCU Mate (Mentor) you will:
- Connect with commencing first-year undergraduate students (Mentees)
- Provide support (non-academic)
- Meet with Mentees online or on campus - you can decide!
- Share experiences and tips to help new students settle into their studies
- Refer new students to support services - training is provide

Campus Connection
Campus Connection is all about bringing students together and helping them discover the incredible support services our university offers. We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help create an engaging and welcoming environment!
As a Campus Connection Volunteer, you’ll:
• Assist with event set up and pack down
• Chat with students and make them feel at home
• Help with fun giveaways and free food
• Be part of building a positive and supportive campus vibe
It’s a great chance to meet new people, gain event experience, and play a key role in supporting your university community.
Campus Connection shifts are short to allow you greater flexibility and are generally from 11am-1pm (shift times may vary) at each of our campus locations; Gold Coast, Lismore, and Coffs Harbour.
The Term 1 Campus Connection is Wednesday 19th March.

Fusional Festival is a multicultural festival where people from diverse backgrounds will come together to share their culture.
Fusion Festival – Event all-rounder
As a Volunteer at the Fusion Festival, you may be tasked with:
- Assist with event set up and pack down
- Collecting feedback
- Assist with enquiries
Volunteers will need to be available from 8am -2:30pm to assist at the event.
Fusion Festival – Safety stall support
There will also be a safety stall at each Fusion Festival location, where volunteers will run interactive activities with students to promote respect among diverse cultures in the Fusion Festival.
As a volunteer at the safety stall, you may be tasked with running an interactive activity with students at the stall that promotes respect, uniqueness and zero tolerance for discrimination among different cultures.
Volunteers will need to be available from 10am-2pm to run the Safety stall.
The Fusion Festival at Coffs Harbour (18 March), Lismore (19 March) and the Gold Coast (20 March).

Assist CoastRs, your Gold Coast Student Association, in delivering a fun and engaging Stress Less day during Stress Less Week.
Your duties as a volunteer will include:
- Assist with event set-up and pack-down
- Helping with engagement/wellbeing activities
Stress Less Week is 7th-11th April at Lismore and the Gold Coast.
