Biography

Dr. Hancy Issac is an experienced academic lecturer and trained nurse practitioner with extensive experience in clinical education, research, and academic leadership in New Zealand and Australia. Holding a PhD with a particular focus on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) management and its integration into emergency department care pathways, her research has been influential in improving multidisciplinary collaboration, guideline adherence, and patient outcomes across healthcare settings in Australia. Proven major impetus in independent COPD research projects with significant leadership of the COPD research team in grant applications and research outputs (publications, conferences) in alignment with health flagship research. She has successfully led several high-impact research projects in New Zealand and Australia, collaborating with key healthcare organizations and universities reflecting her ability to lead complex research initiatives and build meaningful collaborations. Dr. Issac has a national research profile and has been part of funded projects as a primary investigator and associate for a gross of 0.5 million since 2018. She is a research fellow of the International College of Emergency Nursing Australasia (FCENA) and the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). She is currently an active peer reviewer for 4 high-impact journals, including the International Journal of COPD, Journal of Advanced Nursing, BMC Health Service Research, and British Medical Journal.

In addition to her research achievements, Dr. Issac plays a pivotal role in academic leadership. In her Academic Integrity Lead (AIL) role , she has addressed the challenges posed by emerging technologies, such as AI, in academic assessments. Her proactive approach has helped mitigate academic misconduct and enhance assessment strategies within her institution, demonstrating her strong leadership and commitment to maintaining high academic standards and contributing to the scholarship of learning and teaching.

Dr. Issac has made significant contributions to advancing nursing practice and education in both undergraduate and postgraduate courses, focusing on acute clinical care, advanced pharmacology, evidence-based practice, and advanced diagnostics. She is passionate about enhancing postgraduate education and has been involved in developing innovative programs, including those for nurse practitioners. She is currently researching the potential for remote and hybrid assessments to better serve rural and remote students, further exemplifying her commitment to student-centred learning and leveraging digital technologies. As a mentor and supervisor, Dr. Issac guides early-career researchers and postgraduate students, fostering their academic and professional growth. Deep commitment to research, education, clinical practice and academic leadership makes Dr. Issac a skilled academic and practitioner in the community dedicated to shaping the future of nursing education and practice.
