Biography
I am Professor of Information Technology within the Discipline of Engineering and Information Technology, Faculty of Science and Engineering, Southern Cross University. Previously, I had been continuously working in academia across multiple institutions including Nanyang Technological University, Flinders University, and Australian Catholic University. Throughout my career, I have played many leadership roles such as head of discipline of information technology, research lab director, HDR discipline chairperson, and director of teaching programs. I have also served on several important committees such as university academic board, Vice Chancellor’s HDR strategy advisory group, and university human research ethics committee.
Research
My research expertise revolves around intelligent software and interaction technologies that bring together human, software, and artificial intelligence through the unique lens of interaction with an aim to develop and/or study applications that can solve real-world problems such as in defence, health/medicine, education, sports, and environmental sustainability. I was the founding director of the HilstLab at Australian Catholic University. I hold dual senior memberships of the ACM and the IEEE and have chaired a number of international and national conferences.
Teaching
My rich teaching experience spans across all undergraduate as well as postgraduate/PhD levels, covering a wide range of subjects in computer science. My teaching has been delivered through a variety of models including face to face, synchronous/asynchronous online, and blended. I also have extensive experience and leadership in teaching innovation, program design, development, review, and coordination as well as in professional accreditation.
