Brett McLennan

Brett McLennan is the Manager of Digital Learning/Project and Change Manager in the Centre for Teaching and Learning based at the Gold Coast campus of Southern Cross University. Brett is an established digital leader and strategist with demonstrated expertise in creative direction, digital design and production, media production, curriculum development and online pedagogy. Over his career, Brett has held numerous roles, including Director of Education Strategy & Innovation (Open Colleges), Director of Learning Analytics (Deakin University), Head of Learning Design, Content Production and Learning Technologies (Open Universities Australia) and Consulting to Higher Education.

Brett has led several large-scale educational transformations leading projects encompassing learning analytics, learning design, media production and creative learning across the higher education sector. He led the learning design and content creation streams for Open Universities Australia’s Open2Study MOOC platform. Brett and his team took the platform from concept to launch in 22 weeks. Launching with ten courses and building another forty over ten months, Open2Study serviced over 2.5 million students with classes running on a six-week cycles.

Brett has worked extensively in education and the Arts and culture sectors. Brett spent ten years leading the education programs at The Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI), Australia’s pre-eminent Moving Image museum. He spearheaded digital education transformation within the arts sector, delivering programs that shifted that paradigm from passive learning to impassioned creators. Brett played a crucial role in Cinemedia’s (now Film Victoria) Digital Media Evaluation and Advisory Committee, supporting digital media production in Victoria and establishing a creative base central to launching ACMI at Federation Square.

Brett is a staunch advocate of access, equity, and inclusion and is passionate that these lenses get applied across assessment design, learning and creative content creation at inception, ensuring the substantial alignment of equity principles to support the student experience.
