Dr. Hurley's research interests include sport, exercise, and performance psychology, health psychology, organisational psychology and mental health promotion and prevention in communities. One of the highlights of his career so far was working on the multi-million dollar "Ahead of the Game" mental health promotion and prevention grant, funded by the Movember Foundation in partnership with major sporting and industry partners, such as the Black dog Institute. As part of this project, Dr. Hurley educated parents and adolescents in local community sport clubs about the importance of reaching out for help as well as strategies to help others. Currently, he is researching on a diverse range of topics including factors influencing women leadership in healthcare and the influence of social media use on adolescent identity formation and psycho-social health outcomes.
