Biography
Andy has worked as a vegetation, fire and restoration ecologist for over 25 years, consulting to all levels of government on the management of native vegetation. In 2015, Andy returned to SCU to undertake research on fire ecology research, where he has recently completed his PhD titled: 'The ecological consequences of rainforest expansion into long-unburnt eucalypt forests in Eastern Australia'.
Research
Current research projects include investigating the impacts of low frequency fire on open ecosystem biodiversity and function, fire-mediated alternative stable states and positive feedback mechanisms, the reinstatement of appropriate fire regimes in ecological restoration, the revival of cultural burning practices and the impacts of wildfire in rainforest.
Teaching
Andy currently teaches undergraduate units in Fire Ecology & Management and Plant Biology, and also supervises Masters students researching various aspects of fire ecology.
