Biography

Gail is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Office of the PVC (Academic Innovation) and a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (PFHEA) in the UK. She works part-time as an independent consultant in higher education. She is an assessor for the AAUT national teaching awards and a member of the
TEQSA Experts Register. Gail held a position on the
HERDSA Executive from 2005 - 2011 and is a member of the HERDSA Guides Committee. Most recently, she edited the HERDSA Guide
Designing Learning in Intensive Modes of Study, published in 2022. From 2018-2019 she led the development of a digital resource called
External Peer Review of Assessment: A Guide to the External Referencing of Academic Standards, funded by CAULLT. Currently, Gail is chair of the Course Development Advisory Committee (CDAC) for Global Higher Education, an independent provider of higher education based in Adelaide and Sydney. She is also a member of the Academic Board of GHE.
Research
Gail's research interests focus on online professional learning for teachers in higher education, online peer review, resource-based learning, and learning design for online and blended learning environments. She has recently published in the area of peer review in academic journals and on-demand online learning support for students.
Community engagement
Gail continues her engagement with the broader higher education community through her current membership in HERDSA. She is a member of the HEA's Principal Fellow Network and a Professional Member of the Institute for Professional Editors Limited (IPEd) Australia. Gail is currently a Senior Editor for the Journal of University Teaching and Learning Practice (JUTLP). She also served as an editor for the UK journal Research in Learning Technology from 2016-2021.
Previous positions
Before moving to SCU in 2010, Gail worked for four universities in Australia - Macquarie University, Charles Sturt University, Western Sydney University, and Bond University. She has also held senior management roles in Canberra and Sydney in the public and private sectors.
