Emile’s academic journey began in the medieval city of Canterbury, UK., where he gained an Honours in Radio, Film and Television Studies. Walking to class each day through Canterbury Cathedral with a history going back 1600 years was an amazing experience both historically and aesthetically. Employment followed as an audio-visual technician then academic life took a turn when Emile undertook CELTA studies to become an ESL teacher. A stint of travelling led to a dramatic life change and Emile relocated to Australia and expanded his field of teaching to include Media Studies and Film History.
A change of pace from inner-city Newtown to the Northern Rivers resulted in employment at SCU. Initially as an ESL teacher in the English Language Centre and then as a tutor and UA for SCU College. With a proven record of incorporating media-rich interactive content into teaching it was only natural for this to be supported through further academic studies so Emile gained a Masters in eLearning at UNE. This coincided with the introduction of the SC Model and expansion of the CTL team where Emile now resides as an Educational Designer.
Aside from a keen interest in travel, visual communication and educational design, Emile is always up for a chat about new teaching technologies but is easily side tracked with talk about alternative music. If Slint, Mogwai or 4AD mean anything to you, then you are talking his language.
