Biography

Alexandra Lasczik is Professor, Arts & Education, in the Faculty of Education at Southern Cross University, Australia. She is Associate Dean, Education Partnerships and Research co-leader of the Sustainability, Environment and the Arts in Education Research Cluster [SEAE]. Lexi is an expert educator with 40 years' experience in Visual Arts education. She is also a practising artist whose chosen mediums are painting, drawing, photography, poetry, walking and creative writing.

Research

Movement, displacement and climate change education are themes in Lexi's work, as are the Arts and Arts-based Educational Research [ABER], particularly A/r/tography. Lexi is an Artivist, committed to equity and social justice, and her spirited advocacy of a high quality Arts education for all spans her entire career. She has been awarded Southern Cross University's Faculty of Education Researcher of the Year, twice and Faculty of Education HDR Supervisor of the Year. Her projects include the recently funded ARC Discovery Project, Advancing Child and Youth-led Climate Change Education with Country.

Teaching

Lexi brings extensive teaching experience in the Arts in Australia and internationally. She is a specialist in Visual Arts education, pedagogy, and curriculum design, with particular expertise in the engagement of at-risk youth through the Arts. Lexi brings this extensive experience and depth of understanding of the sector to her influential work in teacher education at Southern Cross University. Alexandra was recognised nationally for her teaching and research in Arts education, as a recipient of a prestigious OLT (Office for Learning and Teaching, Australian Government) Citation for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning. She also won the SCU Vice Chancellor's Citation for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning.
