Biography
Dr John Orr is a Senior Lecturer at the Discipline of Law & Justice, Southern Cross University. John has taken a Bachelor of Human Movement Studies from the University of Queensland, a Bachelor of Laws with First Class Honours (and university medal) from SCU and a Doctor of Philosophy from QUT. His award winning PhD thesis, University Law: Pursuing Fruits of Knowledge examined the role played by enabling legislation in requiring Australian public universities to undertake their core functions in the public good.
John is also a long time Director of the peak Education law body in Australia and New Zealand, the Australia and New Zealand Education Law Association (ANZELA). He also the immediate Past Editor of the International Journal of Law and Education.
Research
John’s main research interests are in corporate and higher education law. John is a nationally recognised scholar in higher education law and university governance, which has led to invitations to present at national events, for example, at ANZELA workshops, Higher Education Round Table, UTS and the NTEU, University Governance Workshop.
Teaching
There is a strong nexus between Dr Orr’s research and teaching. John teaches Corporations Law in the Bachelor of Laws program and Company Law in the Associate Degree in Law and Bachelor of Business programs.
