How to use SafeAssign
SafeAssign reviews assignment submissions for plagiarism potential and creates opportunities to help students identify how to properly attribute sources rather than paraphrase. It is fully integrated into regular Blackboard Assignments and with the Grade Centre.
Click to create an Assignment and click on Submission Details on that page to see the 'Plagarism Tools' where you tick to'Check submissions for plagiarism using SafeAssign'. Then tick to Allow students to view SafeAssign originality reports and do not tick to exclude submissions from the Institutional and Global References Databases.
Students will be presented with a disclaimer when they submit their assignment. All staff can see for themselves by going to Student View and submitting an assignment. All marking and viewing of assignments occur in either Needs Grading or Full Grade Centre and Blackboard rubrics are applied there as well. SafeAssign recognises SCU Letter grading schema as the primary display to students and will never display scores when you don't want these to appear, unlike Turnitin.
Loading assignments from previous teaching sessions
If you are concerned about past submissions from past study periods, you can upload these into DirectSubmit, which will instantly populate SCU's institutional database, as Turnitin's database will not be accessible for SafeAssign. To do this, first download Turnitin assignments (or Blackboard Assignments not using SafeAssign) from a past teaching period as a zip file, and then upload the zip file into DirectSubmit.
Note: there is a 10MB limit for uploading assignments to SafeAssign Direct. If the zip file exceeds 10MB assignments will need to be downloaded in batches.
