About the CubeWalk Soundtrail
The CubeWalk Soundtrail is an immersive, documentary-based audio walk across SCU's Lismore campus utilising the existing network of interactive public artwork. Using the Soundtrails mobile application, you can experience a series of richly designed audio stories as you walk from one part of the campus to the next.
The documentaries have been produced by students in the Bachelor of Media degree, who have captured stories of resilience, passion and success from students, staff and the wider SCU community. These previously untold stories reflect the diverse cultures and environments which make up our regional university, while also providing a unique window into campus life for visitors of all ages.
Listen to Jeanti St Clair, Lecturer in the Media Program in the School of Arts and Social Sciences being interviewed by one of her students about her contribution to the CubeWalk Soundtrail project.
Accessing the CubeWalk Soundtrail
- First, download the Soundtrails app from iTunes or Google Play.
- Then, open the app and download the SCU CubeWalk Soundtrail from the Northern Rivers collection.
- Now, put on your headphones and follow the CubeWalk map to make your way around the Lismore campus CubeWalk. The Soundtrails app will use GPS to automatically play the audio stories as you navigate from one cube to the next.
Take the CubeWalk Soundtrail in Armchair Mode
There is nothing like the real, immersive experience of walking a Soundtrail on-location. However, the CubeWalk Soundtrail is available to you even if you can't access the Lismore campus or want to just hear the stories. Listen in armchair mode without stepping on campus. Perfect for the online student to engage with the Soundtrail independently or through in-class participation via the CubeWalk Soundtrail Tutorial (see below).
Learning with the CubeWalk Soundtrail
The CubeWalk Soundtrail adds a new experiential layer to the network of interactive cubes, mobile learning interfaces and multimedia archives of the SCU CubeWalk, which was launched on the Lismore campus in 2015. The Soundtrail connects directly into the CubeWalk's educational framework for exploring sustainability principles and practices. The CubeWalk Soundtrail can be used for tutorial activities across a wide range of disciplines, allowing tutors to design audio-enhanced walks which explore specific concepts relevant to their unit content. Download the CubeWalk Soundtrail Tutorial Template Package files: Tutor Instructions and Student Handout to use in your classes.
The CubeWalk Soundtrail also provides a flexible activity for community engagement initiatives, outreach programs, orientations and prospective student tours. This allows people who are new to the university to connect with some of the places and stories which make Southern Cross University special.
