English for Academic Purposes (EAP)

Endorsed by NEAS logo

English for Academic Purposes (EAP) prepares students for further studies at TAFE or undergraduate and postgraduate study at University. The EAP is offered at three levels where students will gain practical experience with studying at university while improving their language skills.

SCU College EAP build on existing English language abilities in reading, writing, speaking and listening. These units also prepare students for university study through developing their academic skills, such as: researching, referencing, using a Learning Management System, using plagiarism detection software, note taking, and giving presentations.

Students who successfully complete EAP at SCU can gain direct entry into Southern Cross University programs.

Which EAP should I study?

EAP 1: A unit for students who need an SCU Language Test score of 6.0 to enter their undergraduate program (e.g. Bachelor of Business in International Tourism Management).

EAP 2: A unit for students who need an SCU Language Test score of 6.5 to enter their under- or post- graduate program (e.g. Master of Business Administration).

EAP 3: A unit for students who need an SCU Language Test score of 7.0 to enter their postgraduate program (e.g. Doctor of Philosophy).

SCU College is really good. I have improved my English significantly. And, I'm now part of the multicultural family here at SCU College. Our teachers also know more than how to teach English, they know how to teach study skills for university. I am always surprised by their knowledge and advice. We are really well supported here at SCU College.

I am studying with a very interesting group of students from many different countries. That is great because we can only use English when we are learning. The teachers use different strategies and we read about interesting topics. SCU College is really helping my English skills, and preparing me for my PhD studies. I have learnt lots about Australian biodiversity and culture.
