Coffs Ex-Services Club scholarship gives Joshua a head start - 12/01/2005
Southern Cross University student Joshua Hills has been given a head start in his university education after being awarded a Coffs Ex-Services Club scholarship, worth $7500 over three years.
Joshua, who completed Year 12 at Coffs Harbour High School last year, will start a Bachelor of Business in Hotel and Resort Management at SCU’s Coffs Harbour campus in February.
Joshua said he was thrilled to receive the scholarship, which would enable him to focus on study rather than working to support himself.
Coffs Ex-Services Club president Mr David Doyle said the club wanted to support local students in their bid to gain a university education.
“This scholarship is an integral part of the club’s commitment to supporting the needs of our members and the community,” Mr Doyle said.
“Education is the key to the future and we are excited to offer this opportunity. Joshua was selected for this scholarship because of his high academic achievement and contribution to school community and we wish him well as he starts his university career.”
SCU’s Marketing and External Relations director Mr Shaun McDonagh said the university greatly appreciated the support of the Coffs Ex-Services Club.
“We congratulate Joshua on being the first recipient of this scholarship. This is an excellent initiative which will help the Coffs Harbour community retain the region’s brightest students,” Mr McDonagh said.
