Papers, Presentations and Abstracts

The National Association of Enabling Educators of Australia (NAEEA) 2017 Conference is seeking submissions relevant to the following themes:

Enabling Learning, Enabling Teaching

  • Advancing learning in enabling programs
  • Success in, and of enabling programs
  • Academic literacy and academic numeracy
  • Teaching practice
  • Curriculum design for enabling programs
  • Technology and online learning

Four types of submissions are possible

  • Refereed papers (30 minutes) - full written refereed papers
  • Showcase presentations - (15 minutes) - abstracts only
  • Workshop 60 minutes - abstracts including activities
  • Posters - abstracts only

Refereed papers

Submission Due: 31 July 2017
Submission Format: Full paper up to 10 pages (including all references, tables and figures)
Presentation duration: 30 minutes including questions

A selection of the best papers will be published in a special edition of the Student Success Journal.

Papers submitted to NAEEA 2017 will attract the HERDC classification of an E1 publication. This means that refereed papers will be:

  • a substantial scholarly activity, as evidenced by discussion of the relevant literature; and an awareness of the history and antecedents of work described that is provided in a format which allows a reader to trace sources of the work through citations;
  • original (that is, more than merely a compilation of existing works);
  • a contribution to existing knowledge;
  • in a form that enables dissemination of knowledge; and
  • subjected to impartial and independent (double blind) peer review by qualified experts.

Papers will be reviewed against the following criteria:

  • Alignment with the conference themes or sub-themes
  • Inclusion and synthesis of relevant scholarly literature
  • Originality and currency
  • Development of argument and/or soundness of methodology
  • Organisation and clarity of style and expression
  • Compliance with APA referencing system (6th edition - which includes DOI).

All accepted papers will be published on the NAEEA website after the conference.

Papers which do not follow the formatting requirements or are of excessive length will not be forwarded for review.

Papers not accepted under the refereed category may be invited to present a Showcase or a Poster.

Showcase presentation

Submission Due: 31 July 2017
Submission Format: 300 word abstract
Presentation duration: 15 minutes including questions

Submissions for Showcase presentations can be on any aspect of the conference theme or sub-themes. Showcase presentations will be evidence-based and not only outline the initiative or practice being showcased, but provide evidence of its effectiveness.

The abstract (300 word max) should be structured to include:

  1. Background/context
  2. The initiative/practice
  3. Evidence of outcomes and effectiveness
  4. Relevance to the conference themes

Abstracts for showcase presentations will be reviewed against the following criteria:

  • Relevance to the conference themes
  • Description of the initiative or practice
  • Contribution to scholarship and/or practice
  • Clarity and standard of writing

Please note that presentations accepted in this category are NOT considered refereed papers. Accepted abstracts will be published in the NAEEA 2017 Conference Proceedings.

Workshops

Submission Due: 31 July 2017
Submission Format: 500 word abstract
Presentation duration: 60 minutes including questions

Workshops will be extended sessions where participants will engage in practice and debate around a particular topic. Workshops are not extended presentations, but rather opportunities for active learning and development. A limited number of workshops will be available.

The abstract (500 word max) should be structured to include:

  1. The learning objectives of the workshop
  2. Background/context of the workshop
  3. Summary of activities to be utilised
  4. Relevance to the conference theme

Abstracts for Workshops will be reviewed against the following criteria.

  • Relevance to the conference themes
  • Description of the initiative or practice
  • Relevance of proposed activities
  • Contribution to scholarship and/or practice
  • Clarity and standard of writing

Please note that workshops accepted in this category are NOT considered refereed papers. Accepted abstracts will be published in the NAEEA 2017 Conference Proceedings.

Posters

Submission Due: 31 July 2017
Submission Format: 500 word abstract
Presentation duration: A dedicated poster display and discussion session will be programmed

Poster submissions will be evidence-based and should outline the background/context and outcomes. Posters allow participants with similar interests to interact by using the poster as a discussion point.

The abstract (400 word max) should be structured to include:

  1. Background/context
  2. The initiative/practice
  3. Evidence of outcomes and effectiveness
  4. Relevance to the conference themes

Abstracts for Posters will be reviewed against the following criteria.

  • Relevance to the conference themes
  • Description of the initiative or practice
  • Contribution to scholarship and/or practice
  • Clarity and standard of writing

Please note that posters accepted in this category are NOT considered refereed papers. Accepted abstracts will be published in the NAEEA 2017 Conference Proceedings.

Posters will be available for viewing during a dedicated interactive poster session where authors can discuss their poster with other delegates.
