Research Summary

Dr Jeffrey A Guy My current research interests include finfish aquaculture (freshwater and estuarine), industry and international development. I have also worked in coral reef ecology at Sydney University and as a fisheries biologist at the University of New Hampshire in America. Since then I have been employed as a fisheries adviser for APHEDA - an overseas development agency in Indochina, and finally as the aquaculture biologist at Australian Native Fish (ANF) Pty Ltd, Grafton. During my PhD with NSW DPI Grafton Aquaculture Centre I evaluated the potential of genetic improvement techniques to improve growth rate in a native freshwater fish. Since 2008 I have established a strong locally based project investigating the potential of mulloway or jewfish farming in northern NSW prawn ponds. More recently I have been involved in marine education through schools and recreational fishing. Other interests include aquaculture for food security in developing countries, such as Timor Leste, and freshwater and marine stocking.
