Peter Mooney, a Sydneysider who studied at Southern Cross University, packed much more than just study into his law degree.

He enjoyed the social benefits of living on campus and completed a six-month international exchange at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in the United States.

"Exchange was an amazing experience," said Peter who's now an associate solicitor at a Sydney law firm.

"I studied sports law and international law. I got to have lunch with the senior attorney of the Major League Baseball Players Association and with Michael Kirby, the ex-judge of the High Court of Australia."

Peter joined a fraternity and enjoyed the cultural quirks of life in the prairie state.

"The university had a massive football program and an 87 000 seat stadium. I attended the 300th sell-out game, which was a world record. There's nothing else to do there, they love it. It's all football," he said.

Most importantly, Peter felt that Southern Cross University had prepared him well for study at a top 50 US law school.

"It was very competitive and cut-throat at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. There was no feedback as you went through a unit of study, just a four-hour exam at the end. It was difficult, but I was able to do it," he said.
