Loans, grants and scholarships are available to assist Australian students wanting a global study experience. Students are also encouraged to search other resources to find scholarship opportunities.

The New Colombo Plan (NCP) Mobility Grants

Southern Cross Global has seven (7) NCP grants for SCU students to embark on a semester to a year-long exchange at one of our exchange partners in South Korea. Each grant is valued at 8,334 AUD. This is an incredible opportunity not to be missed.

Destination Australia Cheung Kong Exchange Grants $4360

The Destination Australia Cheung Kong Exchange Program supports Australian universities to offer short term mobility opportunities for outgoing Australian students to Asia and incoming Asian students.

This year SCU has successfully secured 6 grants, each valued at $4360 to assist students in undertaking a two terms exchange  at one of our esteemed partner institutions in Asia, with exciting destinations including South Korea, Hong Kong, Japan and Thailand. If you are keen to embark on this transformative journey,  applications for outbound exchange open in February. OS-HELP

OS-HELP is a loan to assist eligible students in undertaking some of their studies overseas. In 2024, students may receive up to $7,921 (non-Asian destinations) or $9,504 (Asian destinations) per six-month study period to assist with a range of expenses such as airfares and accommodation. An additional $1,263 is also available if you are undertaking Asian language study in preparation for study in Asia. Students can apply for up to two loans over two overseas study periods.

Who is eligible for an OS-HELP loan?

You can apply for OS-HELP in the six-month period before the start of your overseas study. 

You are eligible to apply if you are a Commonwealth supported student participating in a program where study is for academic credit or is otherwise a mandatory component of your current degree at SCU. This includes:

  • An approved exchange or short-term program 
  • An approved overseas professional placement

You also need to meet all of the criteria below:

  • You are an Australian citizen, permanent humanitarian visa holder or a New Zealand Special Category Visa holder who meets the long-term residency requirements and who will be resident in Australia at the time of applying.
  • Have not received an OS HELP loan on more than one other occasion
  • You are enrolled as a Commonwealth supported student and have completed one EFTSL of study (96 SCU credits) towards your current degree.
  • You will be undertaking full time study load overseas that will count towards your current degree.
  • You will have at least one unit (12 SCU credits) of your degree left to complete once you have finished your overseas study.
  • You have a valid tax file number (TFN) at the time of applying
  • You have a Unique Student Identifier (USI)

How to apply for an OS-HELP loan

The OS-HELP loan application is submitted through MyEnrolment, Commonwealth Assistance tab.
