Professor Susan Nancarrow

Professor Susan Nancarrow is the Chair of Academic Board and Professor of Health Sciences. She was previously Director of Research in the School of Health and Human Sciences at Southern Cross University. Susan is a health services researcher with expertise in heath service delivery and organisation, particularly in the area of health workforce.
Prior to entering full-time academia, Susan worked in a range of health management and clinical roles, including Aboriginal health, diabetes care, primary health care delivery in Northern India, multidisciplinary team leader for ACT Community Care, and running her own small business. While working as a clinician and health service manager, Susan completed her PhD in health services research at the Australian National University exploring the use of health outcomes in health service accountability. She then worked in Sheffield, England for 10 years, examining health workforce change in the NHS and led several competitive grants in this field. Susan was also actively involved in research capacity building as the research lead for Trent Research Development Support Unit (RDSU). She continued her involvement in knowledge translation / capacity building through to the evolution of the CLAHRCs (Collaborations for Leadership and Applied Health Research and Care) and led the internal evaluation of the South Yorkshire CLAHRC prior to returning to Australia.
In her role as Chair of Academic Board, Susan is particularly interested in the way that the principles of health care quality and safety can be translated into academic governance.
