Dave Morand

Education:

MSc Topic: A study of the pedology and geomorphology of the Northern Rivers catchments of north-eastern NSW, Australia.

Supervisors: Prof. Anja Scheffers, Prof. Leigh Sullivan

BSc (Hons), Physical Geography, 1986 (University of NSW).

E: d.morand.20@student.scu.edu.au

Research interests / background:

  • Currently employed as a pedologist with the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage
  • Completed numerous soil surveys (e.g. soil landscape mapping, acid sulfate soil risk mapping) throughout NSW but with an emphasis on the Northern Rivers region
  • Participated in soil surveys and land evaluation projects in Hong Kong and the United Arab Emirates

My interests include:

  • soil - geomorphic - geologic relationships. The geologically varied environment of the Northern Rivers (Richmond, Tweed and Brunswick catchments) provides a particularly useful background to examine several such relationships
  • on-going development of the Australian Soil Classification (ASC) and the World Reference Base (WRB)
  • use of soil and geomorphic knowledge to assess, evaluate and address land degradation issues
  • promotion of soil science
