Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Peoples

Close The Gap Lismore campus

Southern Cross University acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the land upon which its campuses are located and pays respect to Elders past, present and emerging. The University is committed to ensuring equality of access, participation and success for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and staff.

Significant Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural events are acknowledged at the University as part of the SCU Diversity Calendar. These events are organised by the Southern Cross University Indigenous Events Coordination Committee (SCUIECC), a reconciliation-in-action collaboration of Indigenous and non-Indigenous staff, students and community members.

The University, through GNIBI College of Indigenous Australian Peoples, offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees that are delivered on-campus and by distance education.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students who are studying at Southern Cross University can access advice and support through Indigenous Australian Student Services.

The Equity & Diversity Office works closely with the Australian Indigenous Mentoring Experience (AIME) which seeks to give Indigenous school students the skills, opportunities, belief and confidence to grow and succeed.

Southern Cross University is a Human Rights Commission Racism. It Stops With Me campaign supporter organisation. We commit to undertake activities to challenge racist attitudes and to educate about racism and its detrimental effects to all of society.
