Community Seminar Series
The Community Seminar Series is held annually, hosted by Southern Cross University's School of Arts and Social Sciences and the SCU Community Reference Group. It aims to support practitioners and managers in developing and evaluating innovative solutions to challenging problems.
Workers in the fields of human services, social welfare and social work will especially benefit from these friendly and informative talks. Held in the late afternoon, the seminars are perfect for networking with friends and colleagues, while enjoying the beautiful sunset views from the University's new Gold Coast campus.
Refreshments are supplied and each seminar is free to attend.
The first seminar series, held in 2012, focused on successfully navigating the audit culture. In 2013 the series showcased innovation in the human services sector and in 2014 the series topics were about social justice for the community services in the Web 2.0 millennium. The 2015 series focused on how collaboration between relevant agencies and services can address issues of homelessness.
2016 seminar series - Recharging your advocacy battery
Along with another election year comes the need for increased advocacy for vulnerable communities and the services that support them. This year our seminar series aims to support the advocacy and lobbying capacity of the community services sector. The seminars will provide an opportunity to share experiences and resources about successful advocacy and lobbying campaigns, gain insights from politicians and policy makers about strategies that influence decision making, and support the resilience and collaboration needed for effective campaigning.
